Cellular Sales donates $5,000 to fulfill wish in partnership with Make-a-Wish Foundation at its 400th store opening in North Carolina.

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – Most often, grand opening events are a celebration of a company and the products or services it offers to customers.  But on Tuesday, Cellular Sales did something a little out-of-the-box during its 400th store Grand Opening event.  The day belonged to a special little six-year old girl from Fayetteville: Georgia.

Georgia suffers from Wilms Tumor, a form of childhood kidney cancer.  But on Tuesday, she was granted her wish thanks to a partnership between Cellular Sales and the Make-A-Wish Foundation® of Eastern North Carolina.  Like many young girls, Georgia loves to play with her dolls and dress them in all kinds of different outfits, which is why her wish is to go on a shopping spree to Wal-Mart and Toys“R”Us.

During Tuesday’s Grand Opening event, Cellular Sales and the Make-A-Wish Foundation granted Georgia her wish.  Georgia and her parents, Ashley and Anthony, and her brother and sister, Austin and Makyla, will share in the excitement of her special shopping day on July 5.

“Opening our 400th store is an amazing feat for Cellular Sales, but being able to make Georgia’s wish come true has certainly been the most rewarding part of the day,” said Ari Mendlovitz, North Carolina Regional Director of Cellular Sales.  “We couldn’t think of a better way to kick things off here in Fayetteville and Hope Mills.”

Tuesday’s milestone event took place at the new store located at 3001 Hope Mills Road and despite a tough economy, Cellular Sales, the nation’s largest retailer of Verizon Wireless products and services, continues to open 30 to 50 new stores every quarter.

Cellular Sales invested more than $225,000 in the Hope Mills location and created 15 sales positions to service the store, according to Matt Henry, Regional Recruiting Manager for the East Carolinas Region.

“As we continue to grow, we are extremely excited to open our 400th store in this area,” said Mike Baker, Regional Director of Cellular Sales. “North Carolina is a great state and the Fayetteville/Hope Mills area is an area full of patriotism, community spirit and history.  We are truly honored to celebrate this milestone in Hope Mills.”

Starting as a one-store company in Knoxville, Tenn., Cellular Sales is now a more than $300 million annual business that maintains an annual growth rate of more than 150 percent and has 2,000 sales consultants across the country.

“Cellular Sales has grown tremendously because we put customer service first,” said Dane Scism, founder and CEO of Cellular Sales. “Our business model is based on treating every customer as if they were our only customer.  People notice it when you take care of them.”

Verizon CEO, Daniel Mead, isn’t interested in a buyout of Sprint nor is he worried about the AT&T / T-Mobile merger.

Sprint only took a few hours to put forward their concerns about a AT&T /  T-Mobile merger.  However, Verizon Wireless isn’t even worried.  Its CEO, Daniel Mead, said anything can go through with enough concessions and then also mentioned that, “We’re not interested in Sprint. We don’t need them.”  Mead is more interested in profitability than being the largest wireless company.

Getting to Know Cellular Sales – Stephen Kendricks – Savannah, GA

What is your title? South Georgia Market Recruiter.

How long have you worked with Cellular Sales? 7 years this July.

What is it your role within Cellular Sales? As recruiter, I interview and screen for various positions that Cellular Sales is looking for representatives for. I also represent Cellular Sales at various job fairs and recruiting centers. I network with the Chambers of Commerce.

What makes Cellular Sales such a special company to work with? I can think of so many ways to answer. The company’s approach to partner with people instead of making them employees is one way. Really it all goes back to Cellular Sales empowering us. We take ownership of everything we do. It trickles down to the clients.

Please tell me about your most rewarding or satisfying experience, your proudest moment, since you joined the company. Yes, I have a couple. Last March my Regional Directors offered me the opportunity to become a Recruiter for the South Georgia market. This company has opened a door for me career wise. Being in sales was great start to begin with but I love what I am doing now and my hard work was rewarded.  Hard work and dedication do pay off and this company rewards hard workers.  The biggest thrill was to be able to represent Cellular Sales for a mid market news channel doing a feature story. Cellular Sales trusted me to be the face of the company for the interview and I thought that was so amazing.

What do you like best about working with Cellular Sales? I love how the company empowers us to take ownership of what we do. I appreciate the company for what they do and love that they promote from within.

What’s different about Cellular Sales from other companies? The growth of this company is amazing and the business model works.

Are there any obstacles you face at work? There are not anymore obstacles in this position than any other position I’ve had. However, time management and communication can be obstacles at times. Each day is so busy and finding time to talk with other members of management can be difficult at times because of everyone being extremely busy.

Before working here, what was the most unusual or interesting job you’ve ever had? I think the most interesting was being in the Georgia National Guard right out of school. The most unusual job was being a shoe store manager before working at Cellular Sales.

Are you married? I am not.

What are your hobbies? Working out and working.

And finally….Droid or iPhone? Droid – hands down.

What is your title? Regional Recruiting and Development Manager.

How long have you worked for the company? About 4 years.

What is it your role within Cellular Sales? When working on recruiting I handle phone screens, reviewing resumes, interviews, and then I hand them off to a training manager after they are on board. After that, I do long-term training with partners. I also handle events and sales training on a monthly basis. As well, I also do ongoing development and helping our market out as a whole.

Please tell me about your most rewarding or satisfying experience, your proudest moment, since you joined the company. My most rewarding experiences come from when I was on the sales floor.  It would happen when customers would say, “You were the most helpful person I’ve ever worked with.”  I love when customers would refer me to other customers. In recruiting, I was so proud to see my new recruits win two thirds of the awards that are given out annually. I am excited to see the results from the recruits. As a co-worker, I am proud to have others ask me for help. I am excited to help someone become stronger and help in developing their careers. I love helping people succeed.

What makes Cellular Sales such a special company to work for? Cellular Sales believed in me before I did. It took them a year to finally get me on board. I’ve been so successful and they worked with me to get me where I am today. To me, I think the most valuable thing is that Cellular Sales can take someone and make them who the person can be. They have allowed me to be who I am supposed to be.

What’s different about it from other companies? Everything! It is how much Cellular Sales relies on every individual’s input. I don’t feel like a piece of a puzzle or cog in a wheel or just an employee at Cellular Sales. I think that they have offered me opportunity to be the best version of myself. From the bottom of the roots of tree to the branches, they treat everybody as an important part of the company. You can’t have the tree without the roots or without the fruits or the leaves. Cellular Sales is me and I am Cellular Sales.

What do you enjoy most about working with Cellular Sales? The best thing for working here is how much I enjoy doing it. Before working at Cellular Sales, I used to think of work as a grind but I love what I do and I love selling Cellular Sales. I enjoy going to work and I’m energetic about going work!

What were you able to accomplish by working with Cellular Sales. In my first 18 months of working with Cellular Sales I was able to pay off $22,000 of credit card debt, two cars, pay for my Master’s degree and support my family (my wife didn’t have to work). I did all that while working on a Master’s degree and working with Cellular Sales the same time. If you give everything, it will give you everything!

Are there any obstacles you face at work? The only obstacle I’ve ever faced is myself and my way of thinking. There can be hard days but it requires adaptability and strength of willpower to continue on the hard days. I set my goals going in each day and I accomplish the goals by the end of each day, regardless of how hard the day is.

Before working here, what was the most unusual or interesting job you’ve ever had? I was working in the music industry on Music Row in Nashville, TN. I was pioneering street teams and grass roots marketing for a music label.

Getting To Know Cellular Sales – Alfred Millikan – Knoxville, TN

Alfred Milikan - Cellular Sales, Verizon WirelessALFRED MILLIKAN – KNOXVILLE, TN

What is your title?
I call myself a Wireless Lifestyle Consultant.

How long have you worked with the company?
I started August 24th, 2010.

What is it your role within Cellular Sales?
I want to make sure that everyone’s wireless is set up for their needs and lifestyle. Whether it is a wireless handset, mobile broadband connection, personalized price plans or general all around customer service, I will find exactly what the customer needs. From businesses to friends and family, I want to make sure everyone’s needs are met.

Please tell me about your most rewarding or satisfying experience, your proudest moment, since you joined the company.
My most rewarding experience to date was when my team leader called me up as being #6 on the leader-board across the market and that was my third month of working with Cellular Sales.

What makes Cellular Sales such a special company to work for?
One of the things I really like is meeting customers. Everyone is different and each day is different. Internally, the team I work with is outstanding. Everyone is motivated to do their best and make a good living. The job is a lot more complicated than people give us credit for and we all do our best to find solutions to our customer’s needs.

What do you like best about working for Cellular Sales?
The location change is one the best things. I love going to different stores each day. There is no monotony and every day isn’t cookie cutter. There is nothing that is standard and no day is ever typical.

Are there any obstacles you face at work?
Not that I’ve seen so far. The only obstacle I see is keeping the drive alive and that is not a problem for me.

Do you have a funny story about working at Cellular Sales?
Having lived out West for so many years, I’ve forgotten about the local dialect in East Tennessee. For example, I had a customer come in the store and say “Hey, youins got any of them free cell phones youins got advertised on your website”? It’s great to be home and I love East, TN but the dialect brings me back to reality.

Before working here, what was the most unusual or interesting job you’ve ever had?
I’ve worked in the Alpine ski industry in the past. I was everything from a ski tech at a shop to a sales exec from American Ski Company.

What are your hobbies?
I build, repair and play electric guitars and I love live music. I also used to travel around following the Dead and other live bands. I’m also an ex-pro Alpine snow skier and mountain biker.

If you were stuck on a desert island, what three things would you have to have with you?
I would have my laptop with satellite wifi, an acoustic guitar and a big supply of mouthwash.

If a phone was named after you, what would it be called?
Phatty Phone

And finally….Droid or iPhone?
Droid X, all the way!

Blake Andrews, Austin, TX - Cellular SalesBLAKE ANDREWS – CELLULAR SALES, AUSTIN, TX

What is your title?
Recruiting Coordinator and Training Coordinator

How long have you worked for the company?
Two years

What is it your role within Cellular Sales?
I handle the recruiting and training coordination for the market…just like my title says!  I screen resumes, conduct phone interviews and 1st interviews, coordinate all the 2nd/final interviews for the Regional Director or Sales Managers.  I also actively recruit by attending job fairs.  On the training side I am responsible for getting the trainees through the process of Snelling, scheduling them for their National training week, assigning them to a mentor/trainer, and tracking them through the training process all the way to their dealer code meeting.

Please tell me about your most rewarding or satisfying experience, your proudest moment, since you joined the company.
Outside of being able to recruit for my market, it was receiving the “Committment to Excellence Award” at the end of the year market meeting.  I was given the award for being one of the most committed to this market, and I believe I am.

What makes Cellular Sales such a special company to work for?
The opportunity is what makes Cellular Sales so special. It is unlike any other company in regards to opportunity. Some people see it more clearly than others or run with it more than others, but coming in and being your own boss and yet having someone holding you accountable for success is unlike anywhere else… It is great having like-minded people to bounce ideas off of and can help you when you need it. The overall opportunity is something that is unlike anywhere else. It comes down to where you are the happiest and I am happiest at Cellular Sales. Realistically, this company provides so much for someone that wants to make it happen.

What’s different about it from other companies?
Cellular Sales is different because it provides someone an opportunity to be self managed.  Basically, they give you most, if not all, of the tools and say, “Go run your business.  Be successful, and have fun.”  But if you don’t hit your goals, or need coaching, or need support there are people in leadership who have been the best at your position who can give council and coaching.

What do you enjoy most about working for Cellular Sales?
Personally, I enjoy surrounding myself with people that are better than me.  Some people, in work, surround themselves with people that are less successful than them so that they appear to be the best.  Our reps and leadership are the best, and they help me grow into the person that I want to be.

Are there any obstacles you face at work?
Not enough time in the day.

Before working here, what was the most unusual or interesting job you’ve ever had?
Nothing too interesting actually.  I’ve worked at several coffee shops over the years, and I got to meet and work with a lot of interesting people.

Are you married?
Yes, married 5 years this March.

Do you have kids?
2 kids – 2.5 years-old, and 6 months-old

What do you enjoy doing with your family?
I enjoy just playing with our boys and going to church together.

What are your hobbies?
Worship Leader, playing guitar and going on dates with my wife.

If a cell phone was named after you, what would it be called?
Droid Passion

If you were stuck on a desert island, what three things would you have to have with you?
My wife, Droid Incredible, a dune buggy.

And finally… Droid or iPhone?
Droid…but the iPhone is a good phone.
