Cellular Sales welcomes James “JT” Thome as its new Director of Operations.  Thome is coming up on 15 years of experience in information technology and executive level management.  He brings with him years of experience in software engineering, e-commerce, logistics, business development and marketing.

Dane Scism, founder and CEO of Cellular Sales, said, “We’re glad to welcome JT to Cellular Sales.  His background and skills are exactly what our company needs to prime our infrastructure for continued growth and success.”

Thome holds a BS Computer Science from West Point and an MBA from Emory University.  Upon his graduation from West Point he served as an officer in the Army.  After leaving the Army Thome managed the multi-vendor global support call center for AT&T.  During his time at AT&T he met the founder of WebMD and later joined WebMD in 1997 and served in various executive positions for eight years.  They include Director of IT, VP of Product Management, VP of Engineering Services, and VP of Program Management for the WebMD Health division.

After leaving WebMD Thome joined Jewelry Television as SVP of E-Commerce.  Later he was promoted as Chief Information Officer and was responsible for business intelligence and e-commerce activities.  While at Jewelry Television the company’s website, JTV.com, grew from 8% of total company wide sales to 24%.  JTV.com is now the 4th largest jewelry only website in the United States.

Just prior to coming to Cellular Sales Thome held the position of Chief Operating Officer at Textbooks.com, the nation’s leading online retailer of new and used textbooks.  Thome joined Textbooks.com in June of 2009 and helped grow sales 68% year-over-year.  During his tenure he implemented a web analytics platform, site accelerations technology, and an email marketing platform.  He also developed partnerships with Barnes and Noble and Chegg.com to develop a textbook marketplace and textbook rental program respectively.  Textbooks.com can now boast that is the only textbooks retail website that offers more options than Amazon.com.

“I’m excited to be back in Knoxville and working for Cellular Sales,” said Thome. “It is a fantastic company that’s growing by leaps and bounds, and I’m proud to be a part of their team.”
