Keeping Your Smartphone Secure
Posted on 20. Aug, 2010 by Jay Witherspoon in Wireless Industry
As the smartphones in our pockets, purses, and on our hips become more powerful and contain ever-more valuable information, the security of these hand-held computers becomes more and more important.
The fact is that right now there aren’t very many viruses or attacks on smartphones compared to the number targeting desktop computers, but those numbers are shifting as more and more people carry smartphones.
The best way to keep yourself protected is simply to be aware of what activities might be ill-advised. No matter how secure the smartphone, there are ways owners can decrease that security without meaning to.
Most of the basic smartphone security rules are common sense, but worth repeating:
- Don’t download apps from unknown sources.
- Don’t leave your phone lying around.
- Run a security app. Most devices have well-known (and often free) security apps available. Lookout is what I use on my HTC Incredible.
- Put a password on your phone.
So go get yourself a smartphone today! And be smart about how you use it.
